Budgam, June 26 (JKNS): Thousands of mourners participated in peaceful Ashura processions across Budgam district on the occasion of the 10th of Muharram, paying tribute to the martyrdom of Imam Hussain (AS) and the martyrs of Karbala.
Processions were held with great reverence in Magam, Mirgund, Budgam and other parts of the district, where members of both the Shia and Sunni communities came together in a spirit of unity, brotherhood and communal harmony to honour the sacrifices of Karbala.
Deputy Commissioner Budgam Athar Aamir Khan (IAS), accompanied by Senior Superintendent of Police Budgam Hari Prasad K.K. (IPS), visited various areas of the district to review the arrangements for the Ashura observances. The officers also joined the procession from Mirgund to Budgam. They were accompanied by the Additional Deputy Commissioner, Additional Superintendent of Police, Chief Planning Officer, Chief Medical Officer, SDPOs, Tehsildars, SHOs and other district officials.
The district administration had made elaborate arrangements for security, traffic management, parking, uninterrupted electricity and drinking water supply, healthcare, ambulance services, sanitation and other essential public amenities, ensuring the smooth and peaceful conduct of the Ashura processions.
During their visit, the Deputy Commissioner and SSP interacted with mourners and volunteers, inspected the arrangements on the ground, and served drinking water and refreshments to participants at various points along the procession routes. They appreciated the cooperation of the public, volunteers and government departments in maintaining peace and ensuring the successful observance of Ashura.
Religious scholars and speakers highlighted that the martyrdom of Imam Hussain (AS) is an eternal symbol of truth, justice, humanity, patience and steadfastness against oppression. They said that the message of Karbala continues to inspire people across the world to uphold peace, compassion, sacrifice, moral courage and justice.
Volunteers, local youth and social organisations also established Sabeels (water camps), refreshment stalls and first-aid facilities along the procession routes, providing drinking water, refreshments and assistance to mourners and visitors. Their dedicated service was widely appreciated.
According to the district administration, all Ashura processions across Budgam concluded peacefully due to the coordinated efforts of the civil administration, police, government departments, volunteers and the public. The observances once again reaffirmed the universal message of Karbala, peace, humanity, sacrifice, unity, brotherhood and steadfastness in the face of injustice. (JKNS)
