During his visit, as per news agency JKNS, Chief Minister announced permanent employment for six rescue workers and cash rewards for Gondola staff who played a key role in last month’s emergency evacuation operation, describing their efforts as exemplary and deserving of recognition.

The restoration of services came after Omar Abdullah personally visited the Gondola site, reviewed the functioning of the system, and assessed the safety arrangements put in place to ensure the safe operation of one of Kashmir’s most popular tourist attractions.

During his visit, the Chief Minister inspected the Gondola facilities and expressed satisfaction over the technical checks and safety measures undertaken before reopening the service to tourists.

He said public safety remains the government’s highest priority and that the services have resumed only after all necessary inspections and clearances were completed.

Addressing the media, Omar Abdullah announced that six casual employees of the Cable Car Corporation/Gulmarg Gondola, who played a crucial role during the rescue operation following last month’s technical fault, have been granted permanent employment.

He stated that the formal orders for their regularisation have already been issued in recognition of their exceptional courage, commitment, and dedicated service during the emergency.

The Chief Minister also announced a cash reward of ₹50,000 for every Gondola employee who participated in the rescue operation.

He said the financial reward is a token of appreciation for their professionalism and tireless efforts in ensuring the safe evacuation of stranded passengers during the incident.

The Gulmarg Gondola, one of Asia’s highest cable car systems and a major attraction for both domestic and international tourists, had remained closed following the technical snag that led to a large-scale rescue operation.

The incident prompted a comprehensive technical inspection and safety audit before authorities decided to resume operations.

With the reopening of the Gondola, tourism stakeholders have expressed optimism that visitor arrivals to Gulmarg will receive a significant boost during the ongoing summer season.

Authorities have assured tourists that the system is fully operational and all prescribed safety protocols are being strictly followed to provide a safe and enjoyable travel experience. (JKNS)
