Srinagar, June 25 (JKNS): The Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Thursday said that the Emergency imposed on June 25, 1975, was one of the gravest assaults on the Constitution and democratic ethos of the Republic, while paying tribute to those who resisted authoritarian rule during that period.
In a post on X on the occasion of Samvidhan Hatya Diwas, as per news agency JKNS, LG Sinha remembered the sacrifices of the Satyagrahis who stood against the Emergency and played a crucial role in restoring democratic values in the country.
“Emergency imposed on 25th June 1975 was one of the gravest assaults on the Constitution and democratic ethos of our Republic. On Samvidhan Hatya Diwas, I pay tributes to all Satyagrahis who resisted authoritarianism with courage and played a vital role in restoring India’s democracy,” the Lieutenant Governor posted.
The day is observed to commemorate the anniversary of the Emergency imposed in 1975, a period widely regarded as one of the most challenging phases in India’s democratic history. (JKNS)
