Srinagar, Jun 24 (JKNS): Students pursuing LLB and BA LLB courses at the University of Kashmir have appealed to Education Minister Sakeena Itoo to intervene in the issue of examination centre reallocation, alleging that repeated representations to university authorities have failed to yield any relief.

A group of students told news agency JKNS that the University recently shifted examination centres to distant locations, replacing centres that were earlier available within their respective regions. They claimed the decision was taken without considering accessibility, travel constraints and the difficulties candidates may face in reaching the newly allotted venues.

According to the students, the issue has become more serious in view of the upcoming Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra, during which traffic restrictions and prolonged delays are commonly witnessed on several routes across Jammu and Kashmir. They expressed apprehension that many candidates may face inconvenience or even miss examinations due to travel disruptions.

The students said they had approached the concerned university authorities, including the departmental offices, Controller of Examinations and the University administration, seeking restoration of regional examination centres or a facility to modify allotted centres. However, they alleged that no concrete action has been taken so far.

They further stated that several public representatives and political leaders, including Advocate Riyaz Ahmad Khan, A.B. Majeed Larmi, Altaf Kaloo, Waheed Ur Rehman Para and Bashir Ahmad Veeri, have also raised the issue and extended support to their demand, but the matter remains unresolved.

Having exhausted all available avenues, the students have now sought the intervention of Education Minister Sakeena Itoo and urged her to direct the University authorities to reconsider the decision.

They demanded restoration of regional examination centres or the introduction of a centre modification facility to ensure that students are not subjected to unnecessary hardship and that their academic interests are safeguarded.

The students maintained that their demand is aimed solely at ensuring fair, convenient and equitable access to examinations for candidates across different regions of Kashmir. (JKNS)
