Srinagar, June 23 (JKNS): Traffic Police on Tuesday issued a detailed traffic advisory for the 8th Muharram procession scheduled on June 24, announcing traffic restrictions, diversions and designated parking arrangements to ensure smooth conduct of the religious procession and convenience of the general public.

According to the advisory issued by the office of Senior Superintendent of Police, Traffic City Srinagar, a copy of which lies with news agency JKNS, the traditional 8th Muharram procession will proceed from Guru Bazar to Dalgate, affecting traffic movement on M.A Road and adjoining areas from 5:00 AM till culmination of the procession.

The advisory states that no traffic movement will be allowed from Karan Nagar towards Jehangir Chowk via Shaheed Gunj and Tankipora between 5:00 AM and 8:00 AM.

 

Traffic movement on the Jehangir Chowk–M.A Road–Dalgate–Badyari stretch shall remain suspended from 5:00 AM till the conclusion of the procession.

 

Vehicles coming from Batmaloo, Civil Secretariat and Rambagh towards M.A Road will be diverted through Hari Singh High Street and Residency Road, while traffic from Rainawari and Nowpora will be diverted at Mamta Hotel towards SRTC Bridge, Barbarshah, Kralkhud, Habba Kadal and Karan Nagar.

 

Similarly, vehicles from Khanyar and Ikhwan Chowk will be diverted through SRTC Bridge, Barbarshah, Kralkhud and Habba Kadal towards Karan Nagar.

 

Motorists from Nishat, Shalimar and adjacent areas have been advised to use Boulevard Road, Gupkar Road, Radio Kashmir, Residency Road and Abdullah Bridge for onward journeys.

 

Traffic from Pantha Chowk and Sonwar shall be diverted at Radio Kashmir via Residency Road and Abdullah Bridge.

 

Tourists and local residents from Nehru Park and nearby areas have been advised to use Gupkar Road or Nishat-Foreshore Road during the restrictions.

 

The Traffic Police has requested the public to avoid unnecessary movement from Karan Nagar towards Dalgate via M.A Road during the procession hours to prevent inconvenience.

 

For assistance, citizens can contact the Traffic Police Control Room on helpline number 103.

 

The advisory further states that parking facilities have been earmarked at SP College Ground, Gindun Park, Batmaloo Bus Stand and Zabarwan Park.

 

Authorities have also designated Jehangir Chowk, Gow Kadal, Mamta Crossing, Aziz Bridge and Ikhwan Chowk as cut-off points beyond which no vehicle movement will be allowed during the procession. (JKNS)
