Srinagar, June 21 (JKNS): The Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Sunday extended greetings to the people of Jammu and Kashmir on the occasion of the 12th International Yoga Day, describing yoga as a way of life that promotes physical, mental and emotional well-being and helps individuals maintain energy, confidence and resilience at every stage of life.

Addressing participants ahead of the International Yoga Day celebrations, as per news agency JKNS, LG Sinha said this year’s theme, “Yoga for Healthy Ageing,” is not merely a slogan but a guiding principle for healthy living.

He said while ageing is a natural process, weakness is not inevitable, and yoga empowers individuals to remain energetic, enthusiastic and self-confident throughout life.

The Lieutenant Governor said the world today views health not only as the absence of disease but as a state of complete physical, mental and emotional wellness, adding that India’s thousands-of-years-old yoga tradition has now evolved into a global movement for health and well-being.

“Yoga teaches us to reconnect with our inner self. In today’s fast-paced world, especially among youth surrounded by constant information and digital distractions, yoga provides the peace and silence necessary to remain connected with oneself,” he said.

LG Sinha observed that true health is achieved when the body and mind work in harmony, adding that yoga goes beyond physical exercises and postures.

“The real meaning of yoga is to connect with oneself, understand the needs of the body, control the senses and ultimately live in harmony with nature,” he said.

He said yoga not only improves flexibility of the body but also strengthens thoughts, consciousness and emotional balance.

Referring to scientific studies, the Lieutenant Governor said regular yoga practice significantly reduces stress levels, improves memory and mental strength, and contributes to a healthier lifestyle.

“Health cannot be purchased. It has to be nurtured through discipline and healthy habits, and yoga is one of the simplest and most effective ways to achieve it,” he said.

The LG also highlighted the role of yoga in both preventive healthcare and rehabilitation, saying that over the past several years, yoga has been widely promoted across Jammu and Kashmir through various initiatives aimed at reaching people in both urban and rural areas.

He thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi for popularising yoga globally and making it a powerful instrument of holistic health across nations.

“Today the entire world is talking about holistic health. At such a time, India can proudly say that yoga has shown the path to wellness for centuries,” he said.

The Lieutenant Governor urged people to adopt yoga as part of their daily routine rather than confining it to a single day of observance.

“If we dedicate even a few minutes every day to yoga, its positive impact will stay with us for years,” he said.

He further stressed that yoga is not associated with any particular faith or belief system but is a scientific practice meant for the welfare of all humanity.

LG Sinha wished the people of Jammu and Kashmir good health, happiness and prosperity and extended greetings on International Yoga Day.

“Yoga is not just a support for difficult times; it is a lifelong companion,” he said. (JKNS)
