Budgam, June 21 (JKNS): A 15-year-old boy drowned while bathing in the Doodhganga River, a tributary of the Jhelum, in the Manchowa area of Budgam district on Sunday.

Reports reaching news agency JKNS, The deceased has been identified as Aabid Hussain, a resident of Gool Gulab Garh. He had reportedly gone to the river with two other boys when he slipped into deeper waters and drowned. Preliminary reports suggest that he did not know how to swim.

Following the incident, a rescue operation was launched by the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) and Indian Army. After sustained efforts, the body was successfully retrieved from the river.

Police have taken cognizance of the incident, and further proceedings are underway. (JKNS)
