Anantnag, Jun 18 (JKNS): A woman was booked under the NDPS Act after Anantnag Police recovered 5.960 kilograms of poppy straw from her residence in the Ashmuqam area, officials said on Thursday.

As per news agency JKNS, Police Station Ashmuqam received credible information indicating that a woman, identified as Mst. Fatima, daughter of Gh. Hassan Tak and resident of Amad, had allegedly concealed poppy straw in her residence for the purpose of illegal sale.

Acting swiftly on the information, Police Station Ashmuqam registered FIR No. 54/2026 under Section 8/15 of the NDPS Act and initiated an investigation. During the course of the investigation, a search of the premises led to the recovery of 5.960 kilograms of poppy straw, which was seized in accordance with the prescribed legal procedures.

Further investigation into the case is underway to ascertain the source of the contraband and identify any possible links in the illicit drug network.

Anantnag Police reiterates its firm commitment to combating the drug menace and appeals to the public to cooperate by sharing any information related to narcotics trafficking or substance abuse with the nearest police establishment. (JKNS)
