Srinagar, Jun 18 (JKNS): In a bid to promote electoral awareness and encourage greater participation of youth in the democratic process, the Office of the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO), Jammu and Kashmir, organized a comprehensive voter awareness programme at Government College for Women (GCW), M.A. Road, Srinagar, under the Systematic Voters’ Education and Electoral Participation (SVEEP) initiative.

The programme was conducted through an Information, Education and Communication (IEC) Van, coupled with interactive sessions aimed at sensitizing students about the importance of electoral participation, voter registration, and democratic values.

The initiative was held under the directions of the Chief Electoral Officer, J&K, Shri Sanjeev Verma (IAS).

Nodal Officer SVEEP, J&K, Salaam Din (JKAS), was present on the occasion and actively interacted with the students. He highlighted the significance of voting as a fundamental democratic right and encouraged young voters to actively participate in the electoral process by registering themselves and spreading awareness among their peers and families.

The awareness session was presided over by the Principal of the college, Prof. (Dr.) Yasmeen Farooq, who appreciated the initiative and emphasized the need for more such awareness and training programmes in the future to strengthen democratic participation among youth.

Nodal Officer Election Awareness Kashmir, along with experts from the Chief Electoral Office J&K , also participated in the programme.

They provided detailed insights into voter registration procedures, ethical voting practices, and the importance of informed decision-making in a democratic setup. The experts also addressed queries from students and guided them on the use of digital platforms for voter services.

Students from various semesters participated enthusiastically in the session, making the programme highly interactive and impactful.

The event concluded with a renewed commitment among students to actively engage in the democratic process and contribute towards strengthening the electoral framework of the country. (JKNS)
