The association alleged that the advocate was subjected to physical assault and that an FIR was subsequently registered against him.

Strongly condemning the incident, the Bar Association expressed solidarity with Advocate Rafi-u-Zaman and the legal fraternity at large. It termed the alleged assault on an advocate as a grave act and described it as an example of highhandedness by law enforcement agencies.

The association said it was time for the legal community to raise its voice against such incidents and safeguard the dignity and independence of the legal profession.

Accordingly, all members of the Bar Association Sopore were requested to abstain from court work as a mark of protest. The association stated that the decision was taken unanimously by its Executive Committee and is binding on all members. (JKNS)
