Hosted by the District Administration Kupwara in collaboration with the Indian Army, the event will witness the launch of the self-developed North Kashmir tourism portal, “Shumali Kashmir” (www.shumalikashmir.com), along with the North Kashmir Tourism Magazine, conceptualised, designed, published and hosted by the Indian Army.

These initiatives aim to strengthen the region’s digital footprint, improve access to comprehensive tourism information, and showcase the unique cultural, historical and natural attractions of North Kashmir. Together, they seek to position North Kashmir as a preferred destination for domestic and international visitors while promoting sustainable tourism and local economic growth.

Stakeholder Participation

The programme will witness the participation of a broad spectrum of stakeholders from the tourism sector, including the Deputy Commissioner Kupwara, representatives from the Departments of Tourism and Planning, prominent hoteliers and tour operators from Srinagar and Kupwara, representatives of homestays, taxi operators, and other tourism-related organisations.

The event will serve as a platform for dialogue, collaboration and the identification of opportunities to strengthen the tourism ecosystem of the region.

Promotion of Local Entrepreneurship

As part of the effort to showcase products and enterprises emerging from various Indian Army-led initiatives while fostering local entrepreneurship and sustainable economic development, dedicated exhibition stalls will be set up during the event.

These will feature Barkat Bistro, FLOWK, Harmukh Sheen Washing Powder, Keren LED Bulbs, and a range of products from Tulail and Karnah.

The exhibition will provide a valuable platform for local entrepreneurs and self-help groups to showcase their products, engage with stakeholders from government, industry and the tourism sector, and explore opportunities for partnerships, market linkages and future collaborations.

Through this initiative, the event seeks to highlight the region’s entrepreneurial potential and support inclusive economic growth across North Kashmir.

Expected Outcomes

The event is envisaged as a significant milestone in positioning North Kashmir as a premier tourism destination.

It aims to strengthen collaboration among key stakeholders, enhance awareness of the region’s diverse tourism assets, and promote a shared vision for sustainable tourism development.

The initiative is also expected to catalyse inclusive economic growth by encouraging entrepreneurship, fostering community participation, generating livelihood opportunities, and showcasing locally developed products and services.

Through a coordinated and sustainable approach, the event seeks to contribute to the long-term socio-economic development of North Kashmir while preserving its unique cultural and natural heritage. (JKNS)
