Heatwave-Like Conditions Grip J&K; Srinagar Sizzles at 31.5°C, Jammu Crosses 41°C

Srinagar, May 18 (JKNS): Jammu and Kashmir continued to witness intense heat on Monday as temperatures remained significantly above normal across most parts of the Union Territory, while no rainfall was recorded anywhere during the last 24 hours, according to the Meteorological Department.

According to the data issued by MET Centre Srinagar as per news agency JKNS, Srinagar recorded a maximum temperature of 31.5°C, which was 6.1°C above normal, while the minimum temperature settled at 13.6°C.

Qazigund emerged among the hottest stations in Kashmir division with a maximum temperature of 33.0°C, soaring 8.6°C above normal.

 

Pahalgam recorded 26.4°C, Kupwara 29.5°C, Kukernag 30.8°C and Gulmarg 23.6°C, all remaining considerably above seasonal averages.

 

In Jammu division, Jammu city recorded a scorching 41.1°C, remaining 3.0°C above normal, while Katra registered 38.4°C.

 

Banihal recorded 33.2°C, Batote 31.7°C and Bhadarwah 32.0°C during the day.

 

The MeT department said dry weather conditions prevailed across Jammu and Kashmir with no rainfall recorded during the day or in the preceding 24 hours.

 

Humidity levels remained moderate to low across most stations, while night temperatures also stayed above normal at several places.

 

The weather department has advised people to take necessary precautions amid rising temperatures, especially during peak afternoon hours. (JKNS)
