Anantnag, May 17 (JKNS): In a major crackdown against illegal narcotics cultivation, Jammu and Kashmir Police in Anantnag detected and destroyed illicit poppy cultivation at two separate locations in Pahalgam and Mattan areas of the district, officials said.

As per news agency JKNS, Police detected and destroyed illegal poppy cultivation at two separate locations in the district and registered cases under the NDPS Act.

Acting on reliable information, Police Station Pahalgam conducted an operation at Branpath and found Mohd Ibrahim Bhat S/o Gh Hassan Bhat R/o Sofipora illegally cultivating poppy crop on approximately 17 marlas of land. The cultivation was destroyed on the spot and Case FIR No. 40/2026 U/S 8/18 NDPS Act was registered.

 

In another action, Police Station Mattan acted on a written docket of the concerned Beat Officer and found Mohd Hussain Khan @ Azad S/o Mohd Afzal Khan R/o Gopalpora Khurd illegally cultivating poppy plants in his orchard. The cultivation was destroyed on the spot and Case FIR No. 52/2026 U/S 8/18 NDPS Act was registered.

 

Further investigation in both cases is underway. (JKNS)
