Shopian, May 16 (JKNS): Continuing its intensified anti-drug campaign under the ongoing Nasha Mukt J&K Abhiyan, Jammu and Kashmir Police in Shopian arrested a drug peddler and recovered contraband substance during a naka checking operation in south Kashmir’s Shopian district.

As per news agency JKNS, Police arrested one drug peddler and recovered Poppy straw-like substance from his possession.

During routine naka checking at Chanchward crossing, a police party from Police Station Imamsahib observed a person moving under suspicious circumstances and tactfully apprehended him. Upon search, a 300grams Poppy Straw like substance was recovered from his possession. The accused has been identified as Mohd Ashraf Bhat son of Ab Ahad Bhat resident of Barbugh Imamsahib. Accordingly, a case FIR No. 30/2026 under relevant sections of the NDPS Act has been registered at Police Station Imamsahib. Further investigation is underway to establish forward and backward linkages and to dismantle the broader drug network involved.

Shopian Police reiterates its firm commitment to maintaining a drug-free society and urges the general public to cooperate in this noble mission. Citizens are requested to share any information related to drug abuse or drug peddling on the helpline number 9596768831 (PCR Shopian). The identity of informers will be kept strictly confidential.
