GCW M.A. Road Hosts Successful Unicode Typing Workshop to Promote Digital Urdu, Kashmiri Skills

Srinagar, May 10 (JKNS): The Department of Urdu and Kashmiri at Government College for Women (GCW), M.A. Road Srinagar, successfully concluded a two-week training workshop on “Urdu and Kashmiri Typing (Unicode Based),” aimed at equipping students with modern digital language skills for academic and professional use.

As per news agency JKNS, The Department of Urdu and Kashmiri, Government College for Women, M.A. Road, Srinagar successfully concluded a two week training workshop on “Urdu and Kashmiri Typing (Unicode Based)” on May 08, 2026. The workshop commenced on April 20, 2026.

It was organised with the objective of equipping students with practical skills in Urdu and Kashmiri typing, enabling them to effectively use of modern digital platforms for academic and professional purposes.

 

During the workshop, participants were introduced to various typing tools, keyboard layouts and techniques for efficient typing in Urdu and Kashmiri Languages.

 

The workshop was held under the patronage of Prof. (Dr.) Yasmeen Farooq, Principal, Government College for Women, M.A. Road, Srinagar. In her inaugural address on April 20, 2026, she stressed the importance of integrating technology with regional languages and highlighted the growing need for digital literacy in Urdu and Kashmiri Languages in today’s rapidly evolving academic and technological landscape.

 

The Principal also stated that in today’s competitive world, one must be equipped with modern skills and knowledge to remain relevant. She further remarked that a skilled person has greater opportunities and a higher chance of achieving success in life. She also said that the college will continue to organise such workshops in the future so that students are equipped with the skills and competencies demanded by the changing times.

 

Dr. Syed Masarat Geelani, Head, Department of Urdu, and Dr. Shagufta Majeed, Head, Department of Kashmiri, Jointly stated that such workshops are essential for promoting regional languages in the digital age and for equipping students with practical skills required in contemporary academic and professional fields.

 

Mr. Shanawaz Ahmad Khosa served as the instructor of the workshop and provided practical training to the participants in the Unicode-based Urdu and Kashmiri typing.

 

On May 08, 2026, the concluding ceremony of the workshop was held wherein all the participants were awarded course completion certificates. The concluding ceremony was attended by faculty members of the concerned  departments and a large number of students. (JKNS)
