Jammu, May 6 (JKNS): An old rusted mortar shell was safely destroyed by the Bomb Disposal Squad in the SP Headquarters Zone, Arnia Sector Jammu, after it was spotted in the open fields near Border Outpost Vikrant, officials said.

As per news agency JKNS, A suspicious, rusted mortar shell was spotted by village Treva, Arnia. As per a communiqué received from I/C BPP Treva, Police Station Arnia, regarding the discovery of an old rusted shell in open fields near BOP Vikrant, immediate action was taken.

On receipt of the information, Inspector Chandan Singh, along with the Bomb Disposal Squad (BDS) team of PCR Jammu, promptly reached the spot. After assessing the situation, the team safely destroyed the unexploded ordnance (UXO) in situ.

The disposal was carried out strictly in accordance with established Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and after taking all necessary precautionary measures. The operation was conducted in the presence of BSF officers/officials and the Incharge BPP Treva, ensuring complete safety of the surrounding area.

The timely response and coordinated effort of the police and allied agencies averted any potential danger to the public. (JKNS)
