“Mehbooba Should Place Hand on Quran to Clarify PDP Voted for BJP in Rajya Sabha Elections”: NC’s Tanvir Sadiq

Srinagar, May 5 (JKNS): National Conference Chief Spokesperson and MLA Zadibal Tanvir Sadiq on Tuesday said that election results across the country reaffirm that people are the ultimate decision-makers and cannot be taken for granted.

Speaking to reporters in Srinagar, as per news agency JKNS, Sadiq said, “Elections are about the will of the people, and they decide when, how, and whom to elect. No one can mislead or hoodwink them for long.”

Reacting to the results in various states, he said that outcomes in West Bengal, Assam, Tamil Nadu, Kerala, and Puducherry reflected diverse public choices. “There have been surprising developments, especially in Tamil Nadu, where a new political figure has emerged strongly, showing that people are open to change,” he said.

On the issue of fund allocation under PMGSY, Sadiq said that comparisons without context can be misleading. “Certain regions like Jammu may receive higher allocations due to recent damages to infrastructure such as roads and bridges. Our stand has always been that all regions Jammu, Kashmir, Chenab Valley, and Pir Panjal must get equitable development,” he added.

He also addressed concerns regarding coordination between the National Conference and Congress, stating that the NC has already finalised its members for a coordination committee.

“We are waiting for Congress to nominate their members so that structured coordination can begin and issues can be resolved through dialogue,” he said.

Sadiq further said that political statements from individuals without organisational backing should not be overemphasised, stressing the need for formal mechanisms to strengthen alliance functioning.

Referring to PDP chief Mehbooba Mufti, Sadiq said, “Mehbooba Mufti, along with her members, should place her hand on the Quran and state clearly that they did not vote for the BJP.”

Sadiq further alleged that Mufti had “joined hands” with the BJP in 2014, becoming the first political leader from Kashmir since 1975 to form a post-poll alliance with the party. “If she had not joined hands with the BJP in 2014, then perhaps this would not have happened,” he said, referring to the PDP-BJP coalition government formed that year.

The NC leader also claimed that the PDP remains silent on key issues while targeting his party. “You are constantly criticising the National Conference, but you are silent on major issues whether it is Article 370, statehood, or the developments that have taken place,” Sadiq said. (JKNS)
