The rally was flagged off by ADC Sopore, S.A. Raina, in the presence of Tehsildar Sopore Sheikh Tariq, DSP Syed Nazeef, SHO Ayaz Geelani, DO Fruit Mandi Khalid Mir, Chairman Civil Society Nowpora, and other prominent members of civil society.

The rally commenced from Government High School Nowpora and culminated at GMET School Nowpora. Students from various educational institutions, along with staff members and local residents, participated enthusiastically.

Participants raised slogans against drug abuse and pledged to work collectively towards making Sopore a drug-free society.

Adding a creative and impactful dimension to the event, students of GMET School presented a powerful skit (drama) highlighting the harmful effects of drug abuse and the importance of choosing a healthy, drug-free lifestyle. The performance was widely appreciated by the audience for its strong message and engaging presentation.

Speaking on the occasion, ADC Sopore S.A. Raina emphasised the importance of community participation in tackling substance abuse. He stated, “The fight against drug abuse requires a united effort from all sections of society.

Awareness initiatives like these empower our youth to take a stand and become ambassadors of a drug-free future.”

He further added that efforts are underway to expand drug-free zones in the region, noting that several panchayats have already been declared drug-free and more will be covered under the ongoing campaign.

Tehsildar Sopore Sheikh Tariq highlighted the significance of grassroots awareness, stating that sustained community engagement is essential to effectively combat the drug menace.

SHO Sopore Ayaz Geelani reiterated the commitment of the police towards a zero-tolerance policy against drug trafficking and stressed the need for preventive awareness programs to safeguard the younger generation.

Representatives of Civil Society Nowpora also expressed their resolve to continue working in close coordination with educational institutions and authorities to strengthen the anti-drug movement in the area.

The rally forms part of a broader, multi-pronged strategy being implemented across Sopore under the 100-Day Nasha Mukt Jammu & Kashmir Abhiyaan, aimed at raising awareness about the harmful effects of drug abuse and encouraging community-driven action. (JKNS)
