Erratic Weather Ahead in J&K; MeT Predicts Rain, Thunderstorms, Hailstorm Till May 4

Gusty winds up to 50 kmph likely; boating, farm activities advised to remain suspended

Srinagar, May 2 (JKNS): The Meteorological Department Srinagar on Saturday forecast erratic weather conditions across Jammu and Kashmir over the next few days, with light to moderate rain, thunderstorms, and gusty winds expected in several parts of the Union Territory.

As per news agency JKNS, Director MeT Dr. Mukhtar Ahmad said that on May 2, weather will remain erratic with brief spells of light rain and thundershowers at scattered places towards the afternoon, accompanied by gusty winds.

He said that on May 3 and 4, the weather is expected to remain generally cloudy with one or two spells of light to moderate rain or thundershowers at most places. Thunderstorms, hailstorm, and gusty winds reaching speeds of 40-50 kmph are likely at a few places during forenoon, afternoon, and evening/night hours.

The MeT Department further predicted that on May 5, brief spells of light rain or thundershowers may occur at scattered places towards the afternoon, while from May 6 to 9, the weather is expected to remain generally dry, although brief showers at isolated places during afternoon hours cannot be ruled out.

From May 10 to 12, weather is likely to stay mostly dry, with a possibility of brief light rain or thundershowers at isolated places during afternoon hours.

Meanwhile, the department issued an advisory warning of possible hailstorms and gusty winds in parts of Central and North Kashmir, as well as some areas of Jammu division. It advised suspension of boating and shikara activities during the afternoon to evening hours of May 3 and 4.

Residents have also been advised to stay away from loose structures, electric poles, and wires, while farmers have been urged to suspend farm operations between May 3 and 5 in view of the expected weather conditions. (JKNS)
