Police spokesperson as per news agency JKNS said, Police have booked seven repeat drug offenders under the Prevention of Illicit Traffic in Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (PIT NDPS) Act after obtaining proper detention orders from the competent authority.

The offenders have been identified as, Mushtaq Ahmad Lone S/O Gh Hassan Lone R/O Wagub Sopore, presently lodged in District Jail Udhampur; Shabir Ahmad Ganie S/O Gh Mohammad Ganie R/O Gousia Colony Dangerpora Sopore; Manzoor Ahmad Mochi S/O Mohd Shaban Mochi R/O Harwan Bomai, lodged in Bhadarwah Jail; and Jahangeer Ahmad Tantray S/O Fayaz Ahmad Tantray R/O Behrampora Rafiabad.

All the above individuals are habitual offenders involved in multiple NDPS cases and have repeatedly engaged in drug trafficking despite earlier legal and preventive action, posing a serious threat to public health and safety.

This action marks a significant strike against repeat offenders and peddlers, as Sopore Police intensifies its efforts to dismantle entrenched drug networks. More such offenders have been identified, and the process for initiating strong preventive action, including detention under PIT NDPS Act, is underway.

Sopore Police reiterated its zero-tolerance policy against narcotics and affirmed that all necessary measures will be taken to uproot the drug menace from the district.

The general public is urged to remain vigilant, report drug-related activities and actively support the mission to build a drug-free Sopore. (JKNS)
