DC Baramulla Visits Asia’s Second Largest Fruit Mandi in Sopore; Calls for Collective Action for Growth

Sopore, Apr 22 (JKNS): Deputy Commissioner Baramulla, Syed Fakhrud Din Hamid, on Thursday visited Asia’s second largest fruit mandi at Sopore Fruit Mandi and reviewed ongoing development works and issues concerning the market.

During the visit, the Deputy Commissioner emphasized the need for unity and collective action among all stakeholders for the sustained growth and development of the mandi. He highlighted that several key infrastructure projects are currently under construction in Sopore, including the vital Mazbugh Bridge, which is expected to significantly improve connectivity and facilitate trade.

The DC was accompanied by Additional Deputy Commissioner Sopore, S.A. Raina; SSP Sopore, Iftkhar Talib; SDPO Sopore, Mohd Rafi; Executive Engineer R&B Division Sopore, Er. Javid Ahmad Fakhtoo; President Fruit Mandi Sopore, Fayaz Ahmad Malik; along with officials from PDD, Municipal Council Sopore, fruit growers, and representatives of street vendors.

 

The Deputy Commissioner held detailed discussions with stakeholders regarding various issues, including the functioning of the fruit mandi, progress on the Mazbugh Bridge, and other ongoing developmental works.

 

Addressing labour-related concerns, the DC assured that the administration remains committed to safeguarding the rights and welfare of labourers working in the fruit mandi and will take necessary measures to address their grievances.

 

Meanwhile, President Fruit Mandi Sopore, Fayaz Ahmad Malik (popularly known as “Kaka Ji”), dismissed claims made by a breakaway group alleging financial irregularities. He emphasized unity within the mandi, stating that all members are like brothers and that no separate association exists or will be formed in the Sopore Fruit Mandi. Reiterating his stance, he said, “Doosri association ka sawaal hi paida nahin hota.” (JKNS)
