Focus on UAPA, NDPS cases; officers told to strengthen investigations, dismantle drug networks

Srinagar, Apr 20 (JKNS): Senior Superintendent of Police Srinagar, Dr. G.V. Sundeep Chakravarthy on Monday chaired a comprehensive crime review meeting at PCR Kashmir, directing officers to enhance investigation quality, improve conviction rates, and intensify action against drug trafficking and organized crime in the district.

Dr. G.V. Sundeep IPS, as per news agency JKNS, chaired a comprehensive Crime Review meeting of District Police Srinagar at the Conference Hall, PCR Kashmir.

The meeting was attended by all Zonal SPs, SP Headquarters, DySP Headquarters, all SDPOs, DySP DAR, all SHOs/Incharge Police Posts and Incharges District Police Office.

At the outset, the overall crime scenario of District Srinagar was reviewed in detail. Threadbare discussions were held to enhance the quality of investigation and prosecution in cases registered under UAP Act, NDPS Act, and general crime categories, with a focus on improving conviction rates.

A detailed review of performance was conducted across all Zones, Sub-Divisions, and Police Stations.

Key areas discussed included general crime, POCSO cases, Crimes against Women, Murder cases, Theft and Burglary, NDPS and UAPA cases, Action against alAbsconders and Proclaimed Offenders, Preventive measures, Grievance Redressal, Organized crime, and implementation of Nyaya Sakshya.

Special emphasis was laid on, Expediting disposal of pending and backlog cases. Strengthening investigation in UAPA and NDPSA cases through professional and meticulous handling. Enhancing conviction rates by adhering strictly to legal provisions and SOPs. Identification and attachment of properties and freezing of bank accounts linked to illegal proceeds of crimes.

The chair emphasized intensified action against drug trafficking and directed officers to dismantle NDPS hotspots in a systematic manner. Investigating officers were instructed to explore forward and backward linkages in all NDPS and UAPA cases and ensure financial investigations to trace illegal proceeds.

 

The meeting also highlighted the importance of the ongoing Nasha Mukt Jammu & Kashmir Abhiyan, launched on April 9, 2026, for a duration of three months.

SSP Srinagar stressed coordinated efforts between Police and District Administration to raise awareness about drug abuse and to involve community leaders and Imams in sensitizing the public.

 

Officers were directed to take strict action against individuals involved in drug peddling, with provisions for Cancellation of Passports, Aadhaar cards, driving licenses and other official documents as per law.

 

Concern was expressed over acquittals/discharges in certain UAPA and NDPS cases, and officers were instructed to address investigative shortcomings.

 

SHOs were further directed to conduct regular review meetings with IOs to enhance investigative skills and ensure accountability.

 

SSP Srinagar reiterated that progress achieved would be reviewed in subsequent meetings, and strict action would be taken against officers failing to meet targets.

 

The meeting concluded with directions to all officers to work with renewed commitment and coordination to ensure effective crime control and a safer Srinagar. (JKNS)
