A large protest sit-in was held at the Magam Bus Stand, where transporters gathered to voice their opposition to the move.

The protesters demanded that the government roll back the decision, stating that the extension of Smart City buses to district routes could put the livelihoods of thousands of families at risk. They said the move has created uncertainty among private transport operators who depend on these routes for their income.

Speaking on the occasion, transport representatives reiterated that they are not against development but urged the administration to take stakeholders into confidence before implementing such decisions.

Among those present at the protest was transport representative GH Mohammad Mir of Shalmar sumo Bus Stand, Magam, who expressed concern over the future of local transporters and called for immediate intervention by the authorities.

The protesting transporters warned that if their demands are not addressed, they may intensify their agitation in the coming days. (JKNS)
