The committee has been directed to examine all facts and circumstances leading to the incident and ascertain whether adequate manpower was available at GMC Anantnag at the relevant time. It will also fix responsibility, if any, for lapses in preparedness, medical intervention and service delivery.

Further, the panel will recommend corrective measures to prevent recurrence of such incidents and submit a detailed report along with documentary evidence to the Administrative Department within one week from the date of issuance of the order.

The Principal GMC Anantnag and all concerned officers and officials have been directed to extend full cooperation and provide all necessary records and documents to the committee.

Earlier, Health Minister Sakeena Itoo said that an inquiry has been ordered into the child’s death at GMC Anantnag, asserting that any negligence in patient care will invite strict action.

“We have ordered an inquiry into the child’s death at GMC Anantnag; patient care cannot be compromised. If any doctor is found negligent, strict action will follow. I express condolences to the family; the truth will be established after thorough investigation,” she said.

She reiterated that patient care remains a top priority and cannot be compromised under any circumstances, assuring that those found responsible, if any, will be dealt with strictly.

Itoo further said that she has sought an explanation from the Principal GMC and Medical Superintendent regarding the incident and the availability of doctors at the time.

“They informed that senior doctors were present at that time, but the question remains what exactly happened. If there is any negligence, strict action will be initiated. An enquiry has already been ordered,” she added. (JKNS)
