Srinagar, Apr 3 (JKNS): Emphasising the vital role of parents in guiding children, Jammu and Kashmir Police officer and DySP Headquarters Syed Sleet Shah said that while mobile phones are essential for students to stay connected, their misuse, particularly on social media, remains a growing concern.

Addressing a event on Drug De-Addiction at Government College for Women, M.A. Road, Srinagar, as per news agency JKNS, DySP Sleet said, “When children go to school or college, it becomes necessary for them to stay in touch with their parents through phones. However, many children are also using these devices for wrong purposes, especially on social media platforms.”

She stressed the importance of parental monitoring, stating, “Parental control is very important to keep children on the right track. Parents must keep an eye on the activities of their children and remain aware of their day-to-day lives.”

Highlighting the dangers of the dark web, she added, “There exists a section of the internet below the normal level, known as the dark web, where serious criminal activities like human trafficking and drug trade take place. It is important for parents to understand how their children are accessing the internet and engaging on social media.”

She further said, “As parents, both fathers and mothers must remain invested in the personal lives of their children. Education is extremely important, especially for middle-class families, as it is the primary means to progress in society. Hard work is the only way to achieve success in life.”

“While respecting the privacy of children, parents must still be aware of their daily activities who they interact with, how their day was, and who their friends are,” she said.

Reiterating a strict stance against drug abuse, DySP Sleet said, “We have zero tolerance for drugs. Jammu and Kashmir Police is making every effort to crack down on drug peddlers and dismantle this illegal network.” (JKNS)
