Plantation Drive 2026: “One Million Trees for Pir Panjal” Launched in Sukhnag

Budgam, Mar 29 (JKNS): A mega plantation drive under the theme “One Million Trees for Pir Panjal” was successfully launched in the scenic Sukhnag area of Budgam district, marking a significant step toward environmental conservation and sustainable development.

The programme was organized by the School for Rural Development and Environment (SRDE) in collaboration with the Forest Department Jammu & Kashmir and the Nature Conservancy Alliance (NCA). The initiative witnessed the enthusiastic participation of forest officials, foreign delegates, students, and local residents.

The drive was conducted under the leadership of Range Officer Shah Mudasir of the Forest Department, Budgam (Pir Panjal Range Zone). Foreign delegates from various countries inaugurated the event and appreciated the department’s efforts in promoting large-scale afforestation and environmental awareness.

Hundreds of locals, along with students from different educational institutions, actively participated in the plantation drive, reflecting strong community engagement and growing environmental consciousness in the region.

Speaking on the occasion, Range Officer Shah Mudasir emphasized the importance of forests in maintaining ecological balance and urged the public and visitors to preserve the natural beauty of Sukhnag. He appealed to all to follow cleanliness norms and contribute responsibly toward environmental protection.

Local participants lauded the Forest Department for organizing such initiatives and assured their continued cooperation in future conservation drives.

Foreign delegates, including representatives from Azerbaijan, highlighted the importance of involving youth in environmental programmes. They noted that such initiatives help educate and inspire the younger generation to take responsibility for protecting natural resources.

They further stressed that environmental conservation is a global priority and collective efforts like these are essential to ensure a sustainable future.

The plantation drive stands as a remarkable example of collaboration between government bodies, organizations, and the community, reinforcing the shared commitment to safeguarding the environment in the Pir Panjal region. (JKNS)
