District Administration Kupwara launches week long campaign to commemorate 150 years of National Song “Vande Mataram”

KUPWARA, MARCH 23: The District Administration Kupwara today launched a week-long campaign to commemorate 150 years of the national song “Vande Mataram,” celebrating its enduring legacy and significance in India’s freedom movement and cultural heritage.

The main event was held at Town Hall Kupwara which was inaugurated by Deputy Commissioner Kupwara, Shrikant Suse. The event marked the beginning of a series of activities planned across the district to honor the spirit of patriotism and unity embodied in “Vande Mataram.”

Speaking on the occasion, the Deputy Commissioner highlighted the historical importance of the song and emphasized the need to instill its values among the younger generation. He encouraged active participation from educational institutions, civil society, and the general public throughout the week-long celebrations.

The campaign will feature a variety of programs, including cultural performances, awareness drives, school activities, and community engagements aimed at fostering a sense of national pride and collective responsibility.

On the occasion, District Information & Public Relations Centre Kupwara held exhibition highlighting the role freedom fighters in Independence of the Country. Besides, short film on the history of Vande Mataram song was also presented.

The event was attended by Additional Deputy Commissioner Kupwara, Gulzar Ahmad Khan; Assistant Commissioner Revenue, Peerzada Mumtaz Ahmad, Chief Planning Officer, Parvaiz Ahmad; Chief Education Officer, Manzoor Ahmad; besides, other officers from police and line departments and large number of employees.

Similarly, a “Vande Mataram” event was also held at Town Hall Handwara, which was presided over by ADC Handwara, Javed Naseem Masoodi in presence of officers and large number of employees. On the occasion, painting competitions, exhibition and blood donation camp were held to commemorate the special event. Events of similar nature were also held in Lolab and Karnah sub divisions, Tehsil/Block Headquarters and Educational Institutions commemorating the 150 years of the national song.
