Srinagar, Mar 17 (JKNS): The holy night of Shab-e-Qadr was observed with great religious devotion across Kashmir as thousands of worshippers thronged Hazratbal Shrine and other mosques and shrines to offer special night-long prayers.

Shab-e-Qadr, also known as the Night of Power, falls in the last ten days of the holy month of Ramadan and is observed by most Muslims on the 27th night of Ramadan, when believers engage in prayers and supplications seeking mercy and forgiveness from Almighty Allah.

Details available with news agency JKNS stated that large congregations were witnessed at the revered Hazratbal Shrine on the banks of Dal Lake, where thousands of worshippers, including men, women, elderly and children, gathered throughout the night to seek blessings and pray for peace, prosperity and wellbeing.

Devotees in other districts visited several shrines and mosques across the Valley, where special night-long prayers, recitations of the Holy Quran and religious sermons were held.

The shrines and mosques remained abuzz with spiritual gatherings as people spent the night in worship and remembrance of Allah.

Worshippers were seen offering Nawafil prayers, reciting the Holy Quran and making supplications, praying for peace across the world and particularly for lasting peace and prosperity in Kashmir.

Many devotees said that the blessed night provides an opportunity for believers to seek forgiveness and mercy from Almighty Allah and to pray for the wellbeing of humanity.

Meanwhile, the authorities had put in place necessary arrangements at major shrines and mosques to facilitate the smooth conduct of prayers.

Adequate security, traffic regulation, sanitation, lighting and medical facilities were arranged to ensure convenience for the large number of devotees visiting the religious places.

Religious scholars, while addressing the gatherings, highlighted the significance of Shab-e-Qadr, urging people to follow the teachings of Islam and strengthen the values of compassion, unity and peace in society.

Special prayers concluded with devotees expressing hope and faith that their prayers would be accepted on the blessed occasion. (JKNS)
