Ahmedabad, Mar 8 (JKNS): India successfully defended their ICC T20 World Cup title after registering a commanding 96-run victory over New Zealand in the final played at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Sunday.

Batting first, India put up a formidable 255/5 in 20 overs, setting a huge target for the Black Caps, as per news agency JKNS.

Sanju Samson spearheaded the innings with a brilliant 89 off 46 balls, hitting five boundaries and eight sixes. He received strong support from Abhishek Sharma, who smashed a quick 52 off 21 deliveries, and Ishan Kishan, who contributed a rapid 54 off 25 balls, ensuring India maintained a high scoring rate.

Towards the end of the innings, Shivam Dube added late momentum with an unbeaten 26 off just 8 balls, while Tilak Varma remained not out on 8, helping India reach a daunting total.

In response, New Zealand faltered under pressure while chasing 256, as Indian bowlers struck at regular intervals to derail their innings.

Leading the bowling attack, Jasprit Bumrah produced a superb spell, picking up 4 wickets for 15 runs in four overs. Axar Patel also impressed with three wickets, while Hardik Pandya, Varun Chakravarthy and Abhishek Sharma claimed one wicket each.

New Zealand were eventually dismissed for 159 in 19 overs, sealing a convincing win for India and confirming their second consecutive T20 World Cup triumph.

The victory triggered celebrations among players and supporters, with India once again asserting its strength and dominance in world T20 cricket. (JKNS)
