Speaking to reporters in Jammu, as per news agency JKNS, Chief Minister Omar expressed sympathy with the people of Iran and condemned the attack that led to the killing of Iran’s Supreme Leader and members of his family.

He said actions aimed at altering regimes through force set a dangerous precedent and undermine international norms.

At the same time, Omar Abdullah appealed to the people of Jammu and Kashmir to maintain peace and not allow emotions to escalate the situation.

He said while grief and anger are understandable, it is important to exercise restraint and not take the law into one’s own hands.

He also urged religious leaders to guide people towards peaceful expression of sentiments.

The Chief Minister said he does not want any misuse of force by police or paramilitary forces, nor does he want civilians to get injured. Referring to reports of clashes at some places, he said such incidents compel authorities to impose stricter measures.

On the safety of J&K residents in Iran, he said the government is in touch with the Ministry of External Affairs and that most students have been shifted to safer locations. He advised those still in Iran to strictly follow the guidelines issued by the Indian Embassy.

Commenting on the broader regional tensions, Omar Abdullah said war is not a solution to any problem and urged all sides to de-escalate. He reiterated that if the people of Iran are dissatisfied with their government, only they have the right to decide how and when to bring about change. (JKNS)
