Nagi, a Jammu-born artist, educator and founder of the Rouble Nagi Art Foundation, was conferred the prestigious Global Teacher Prize at the World Government Summit in Dubai. The award was presented by Dubai Crown Prince Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed Al Maktoum.

The Global Teacher Prize, instituted by the Varkey Foundation in partnership with UNESCO, carries a USD 1 million reward and honours exceptional contributions to the teaching profession. Nagi was selected from over 5,000 nominations and applications across 139 countries.

Highlighting her continued commitment to Jammu and Kashmir, she said, “If earlier we were planning to do ten initiatives, now we can take up fifteen. My work will not stop — it will only expand.”

During her recent visit to the border village of Amrohi in Tangdhar, Kupwara district, supported by the Army, Nagi distributed blankets among needy families and interacted with students. She also expressed her intent to open more learning centres in villages along the Line of Control (LoC) to promote education and skill development among women and youth.

Calling the award a collective achievement, Nagi said, “This recognition is not mine alone. It belongs to every teacher and every child who has been part of this journey. When you receive such an honour on a global platform, it brings responsibility along with encouragement.”

She added that the recognition reinforces respect for teachers across the country and aligns with the broader vision of ensuring quality education for every child. (JKNS)
