Kupwara, Feb 24 (JKNS): A major tragedy was averted in Gakherpora Kandi Khass area of Kupwara district on Tuesday after swift and coordinated action by the Jammu & Kashmir Police, Indian Army, and Fire & Emergency Services saved lives and prevented the fire from spreading to nearby houses.
The fire broke out in a residential house belonging to Abdul Rehman Bhat, son of Abdul Ahad Bhat, triggering panic in the locality.
The blaze quickly engulfed the single-storey structure, causing extensive damage.
According to officials, upon receiving the distress call, the Special Operations Group (SOG) Unit of Jammu & Kashmir Police Kandi and the Indian Army Unit Kandi rushed to the spot within minutes.
The security forces immediately secured the area and assisted the affected family in evacuating safely.
Fire & Emergency Services also reached the scene promptly with firefighting equipment and launched an operation to douse the flames.
Despite their intense efforts, the house was completely gutted in the fire. However, their timely intervention successfully prevented the blaze from spreading to adjacent residential houses.
No loss of life or injury was reported in the incident.
Locals appreciated the prompt response and bravery of the SOG Kandi, Indian Army personnel, and Fire & Emergency Services, stating that their coordinated action averted a potentially devastating situation in the densely populated area.
The cause of the fire was not immediately known, and further investigation is underway. (JKNS)
