During the drive, a number of shopkeepers were found without displaying the mandatory rate lists, while complaints were also received regarding overcharging by some traders. The administration imposed fines on the spot against those found violating the rules.

In addition, polythene bags worth thousands of rupees and expired food items were seized during the inspection and destroyed immediately.

The inspection was carried out in the presence of the SHO Karnah and Haji Tasleem Mir, President of the Traders Association. Officials strictly directed shopkeepers to prominently display government-approved rate lists and charge customers only the prescribed prices, warning that strict legal action would be taken against violators.

Speaking on the occasion, Tehsildar Karnah Muhammad Ameen Bhat said that ensuring the availability of quality essential commodities at reasonable prices during Ramadan is the administration’s top priority. He added that such market inspections will continue in the coming days to curb profiteering and illegal practices.

Local residents appreciated the administration’s action and expressed hope that the initiative will help maintain fair prices in the market during the holy month.(JKNS)
