Secretary J&K Sports Council Nuzhat Gul, while speaking to reporters in Gulmarg, as per news agency JKNS, said, “Our fixtures will start from tomorrow morning and will run till 26th. The Field of Play (FOP) has been set up at Kongdori.”

She said that while ice sports disciplines, including ice hockey, have already been conducted in Ladakh, the snow events will now formally begin in Gulmarg.

“There is a lot of hustle and bustle here. Skiers from different states have assembled. This is not a competition event but a demonstration event. Participants are also taking part in cultural programmes and ski-mashal activities,” she said.

Highlighting the scale of participation, she added, “Children from different regions and backgrounds are participating. Athletes are here from 34 states, cities and boards. The total strength of the Games Village is 950.”

Meanwhile, the Secretary chaired a detailed review meeting regarding preparations for the prestigious national winter sports event scheduled from February 23–26, 2026.

The meeting was attended by officers of the J&K Sports Council entrusted with ensuring the smooth conduct of the games.

The Council, in coordination with the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, the Sports Authority of India, and the Department of Youth Services & Sports, has put in place elaborate arrangements for competitions in Alpine Skiing, Nordic Skiing, Snowboarding, and Ski Mountaineering.

Officials said comprehensive planning has been ensured for technical management, athlete logistics including food and accommodation, transportation, and ceremonial arrangements. With participation of over 1,000 athletes and officials from 25 States and Union Territories, Gulmarg continues to reinforce its status as India’s premier winter sports destination. (JKNS)
