Speaking to reporters, as per news agency JKNS, DC Labroo said that several practical measures have been initiated over the past few months to address congestion, especially near key hospital zones. “To decongest SMHS Hospital and the Super Speciality Hospital areas, an alternate route via Sonwar has been developed. The work is progressing at a fast pace and is expected to divert nearly half of the traffic, significantly easing congestion and facilitating quicker access for incoming patients,” he said.

Referring to the Bone and Joint Hospital, Labroo said three major interventions are underway. “First, an alternate Bund Road has been developed by the R&B Department, and its first phase has been completed. Second, on the request of the Principal, GMC Srinagar, work has commenced on creating an alternate entry point from the Bund Road to ensure smoother access for trauma patients, doctors and medical staff. An additional parking facility, along with a ramp and supporting infrastructure, is also being developed from this side,” he stated.

He further said that a proposal for creating a connecting passage for parking and faculty movement is under consideration and will be explored soon. “We are also working on connecting this road to Chhanpora. A preliminary survey has been conducted by SSP Traffic and the R&B Department, and the proposal will be taken up in the next financial year,” he added.

The DC also informed that an underpass for light motor vehicles has been completed and will soon be made operational following clearance from traffic authorities. “These initiatives will substantially reduce congestion in the area. Traffic management and infrastructure upgrades, especially around high-footfall healthcare facilities, will continue in the current and upcoming financial year,” he said. (JKNS)
