Bandipora, Feb 12 (JKNS): Members of the tribal community from the Ajas area of Bandipora district on Thursday assembled at the Irrigation Colony in Sumbal and staged a protest against the Power Development Department (PDD), Sub-Division Hajin, alleging discrimination in the implementation of benefits under the Tribal Sub-Plan funds.

The protesters as per news agency JKNS said that despite being entitled to concessions under the Tribal Sub-Plan, they continue to receive electricity bills, due to which their outstanding dues have accumulated to nearly ₹2,000 per household.

Speaking to the media during the protest, a representative of the tribal community said that the scheme has already been implemented in other divisions of Bandipora district as well as in Shopian and several other areas, but the tribal population falling under the Hajin Division has allegedly been deprived of these benefits.

The protesters appealed to the district administration and concerned authorities to take immediate notice of the matter and ensure proper implementation of the scheme in Hajin Division so that their electricity bills are reduced and they receive relief from the mounting financial burden. (JKNS)
