Bandipora, Feb 12 (JKNS) Residents of Naninara area in Bandipora district on Thursday staged a strong protest against the Power Development Department (PDD), opposing the installation of smart electricity meters in their locality.

The protesting residents said that Naninara is a poor and economically backward area where most people earn their livelihood on a daily-wage basis. They stated that many families survive on day-to-day earnings, making it extremely difficult for them to bear the financial burden associated with smart meters.

The residents further said that the area is home to marginalized sections of society, including a large number of fishermen and other low-income groups. They expressed concern that the installation of smart meters would worsen their financial condition.

Appealing to the government, the residents urged authorities to do justice with them and exempt Naninara from the installation of smart meters, keeping in view the socio-economic condition of the people living in the area. (JKNS)
