The inspection team also collected three spice samples, which were sealed and sent for laboratory examination to verify their quality and detect any possible adulteration.

Officials thoroughly checked expiry dates, stock registers and rate lists of essential commodities. Shopkeepers were directed to prominently display price lists and maintain proper hygiene within their business premises. They were also warned against hoarding, overpricing and selling expired or substandard food items.

In view of the approaching holy month of Ramadhan, authorities stated that such market checking drives will be intensified to ensure the availability of quality and hygienic food items for the public. Strict legal action will be taken against violators found compromising consumer safety.

The administration has appealed to the general public to remain vigilant and report any cases of overcharging or sale of adulterated and expired products to the concerned departments for prompt action. (JKNS)
