Minor Gas Leakage Reported at Satwari Scrap Shop; Chemical Leak Reports Unfounded: Police

Jammu, Feb 8 (JKNS): Jammu Police has dismissed media reports suggesting a major chemical gas leak and hospitalization of residents in the Satwari area, terming them false and misleading.

Senior Superintendent of Police (South) Jammu, Ajay Sharma, as per news agency JKNS that the incident pertained to a minor gas leakage from a cylinder kept inside a scrap dealer’s shop. He said the situation was swiftly handled by the police and the source of the leakage was immediately isolated and secured.

 

SSP said there was no danger to public health or safety and no serious injuries or medical emergencies were reported due to the incident.

 

Urging people to remain calm, Sharma appealed to the public not to fall prey to rumours circulating on social media and certain sections of the media.

 

Meanwhile, police have registered an FIR against the owner of the scrap shop for negligence and improper handling of scrap material. Further investigation into the matter is underway. (JKNS)
