The Armed Forces Veterans’ Day is celebrated annually on 14 Jan to honour the legacy and service of First Commander-in-Chief of Indian Army, Field Marshal KM Cariappa who retired on this day in 1953.

By paying tribute to the valour, sacrifices and dedicated service of the veterans who have served the nation with distinction, a celebratory event including an outreach programme was organised to mark the day.

The veterans shared experiences of their glorious service motivating the young minds and expressed their appreciation for the Indian Army’s initiatives aimed at addressing their needs post retirement.

The event saw a turnout of 11 ex-servicemen and six widows of ex-servicemen who served with the Indian Army in the past.

The event served as a platform for meaningful interaction between the veterans and the serving personnel fostering a sense of camaraderie and mutual respect. The occasion gave an opportunity to update the veterans on various welfare, education & scholarship schemes, health & pension polices and employment opportunities.

The event also included a health checkup booth and a grievance redressal cell.

This memorable day served as a reminder of the enduring bond between the Indian Armed Forces and the people they protect, inspiring the next generation to carry forward the legacy of service and patriotism. (JKNS)
