Karnah, Jan 28 (JKNS): A second Western Disturbance triggered heavy snowfall across the Karnah region from the night of January 26 to January 27, severely affecting daily life, transportation, healthcare, and essential services.

As of today, January 28, the weather in Karnah remains cloudy. Despite extreme conditions, significant progress has been made on the Karnah–Chowkibal Road, especially at Sadhna Top, where major snow-covered stretches have been cleared. Authorities are optimistic that Sadhna Road may reopen for one-way traffic by tomorrow morning, subject to weather conditions.

Snow accumulation has been heavy, with around 2 feet of snow in Tangdar plains and nearly 7 feet at Sadhna Top, making restoration and clearance operations highly challenging.

The snowfall has also impacted medical emergency services. At least five patients could not be airlifted as helicopter services have not yet started this season, raising serious concerns for residents in remote and snowbound areas. Furthermore, many aspirants reportedly missed important exams and interviews due to road closures and travel disruptions.

Electricity supply has been partially restored, though full restoration is still underway. Teams from the Power Development Department are working tirelessly amid snowfall and freezing temperatures to clear multiple faults and restore power lines.

Meanwhile, link road restoration in Karnah has reached nearly 80 percent completion due to the dedicated efforts of the R&B Department, including JEE, AE, ground workers, JCB drivers, and other field staff who continue to work around the clock.

The Karnah Administration, under the supervision of Tehsildar Karnah Mohd Amin Bhat, has been widely appreciated for effective coordination, ground monitoring, and strong leadership during this difficult period.

Residents remain hopeful that with continued administrative efforts and field operations, road connectivity, power supply, and emergency services will soon be fully restored.(JKNS)
