DDCs to Complete Five-Year Term on February 24, 2026: J&K Government

Srinagar, Jan 27 (JKNS): The Jammu and Kashmir Government has clarified that the tenure of the District Development Councils (DDCs) in the Union Territory will come to an end on February 24, 2026, as per the Jammu and Kashmir Panchayati Raj Rules, 1996.

As per an official communication issued by the Department of Rural Development and Panchayati Raj as per news agency JKNS, the five-year term of the DDCs is calculated from the date of issuance of the notification constituting the councils, which was February 25, 2021.

The government, citing the legal opinion of the Department of Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs under Sub-Rules (2) and (3) of Rule 108ZP of the Panchayati Raj Rules, stated that the District Development Councils shall cease to exist with effect from February 24, 2026.

The communication has been addressed to all Chief Executive Officers of the District Development Councils, directing them to inform the respective Chairpersons and elected members in their districts about the completion of the council’s term.

The order has been issued under the signature of Vilender Kumar Bhat, Under Secretary to the Government, Department of Rural Development and Panchayati Raj. (JKNS)
