Srinagar, Jan 23 (JKNS): Inspector General of Police (IGP) Kashmir, V.K. Birdi, on Friday said that comprehensive and multi-tier security arrangements have been put in place across the Kashmir Valley to ensure peaceful Republic Day celebrations on January 26.

Speaking to reporters after paying floral tributes at the Balidan Stambh here, IGP Birdi, as per news agency JKNS, said that Republic Day functions will be organised throughout the Kashmir zone. “Main ceremonies will be held in different districts where designated chief guests will receive the salute,” he said.

He said the tribute at Balidan Stambh was meant to honour the sacrifices of martyrs. “It is a moment to remember and pay respect to those who laid down their lives. The main Republic Day function will later be held at Bakshi Stadium, where police personnel, school children and the general public will take part in the parade,” he added.

Responding to a question on security measures, the IGP said that a robust and multi-layered security setup has been deployed across the Valley, with special focus on Srinagar city. “Jammu and Kashmir Police, in coordination with paramilitary forces, has further strengthened the security grid to ensure smooth and incident-free celebrations,” he said.

IGP Birdi expressed confidence that the arrangements in place would ensure peaceful conduct of Republic Day events across Kashmir. (JKNS)
