Following the tragedy, specialised teams including elite MARCOS divers, supported by the SDRF’s Quick Response Team (QRT), had conducted extensive underwater search operations at several points along the Jhelum. Despite sustained and coordinated efforts at the time, the body could not be traced.

On Monday, locals noticed the body floating in the river and immediately alerted the authorities, after which it was recovered.

The Gandbal boat tragedy, which claimed eight lives including children, is remembered as one of the most tragic incidents in Srinagar in recent years. With the recovery of the last missing victim, the long-drawn search operation has formally concluded. (JKNS)
