Jammu, Jan 7 (JKNS): Union Home Minister Amit Shah will on Thursday chair a high-level meeting in New Delhi to review the security situation in Jammu and Kashmir, marking the first major security assessment of the Union Territory this year.

Sources told news agency JKNS that the meeting will be attended by Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, senior officials of the Ministry of Home Affairs, heads of paramilitary forces, intelligence agencies, and top civil and police officers of Jammu and Kashmir.

The review comes at a time when security forces have intensified search operations in mountainous and remote areas of the Jammu region to track down terrorists, including foreign militants. Officials said discussions will primarily revolve around strategies to eliminate terrorists operating in different parts of the Union Territory and to maintain zero infiltration along the borders.

Among those expected to attend the meeting are Chief Secretary Atal Dulloo, Home Secretary Chandraker Bharti, Director General of Police Nalin Prabhat and Intelligence chief Nitish Kumar. Union Home Secretary Govind Mohan, along with chiefs of paramilitary forces and intelligence agencies, will also be present.

Senior officers will brief the Home Minister on the prevailing security scenario, including counter-terror operations, border management and steps taken during the winter months to prevent infiltration from across the Line of Control and the International Border.

Over the past few months, security forces have engaged terrorists in several encounters in the upper reaches of districts such as Kishtwar, Doda and Udhampur. Infiltration attempts from across the border have also been thwarted during this period.

Sources said intelligence inputs indicate that militants remain stationed across the LoC and IB with assistance from across the border, awaiting opportunities to infiltrate. However, security agencies have so far maintained zero infiltration during winter and are determined to sustain it, they added. (JKNS)
