He said many offenders have also been booked under the PIT NDPS Act to prevent them from continuing their activities.

“Police alone cannot win this war. Public support is the backbone of any meaningful success against drugs. Without cooperation from citizens, it is impossible to eliminate this menace,” Ul Zamaan said, urging people to come forward with information.

He said the police have adopted a multi-pronged strategy, including attachment and seizure of properties belonging to drug traffickers, to break the financial backbone of the narcotics network operating in the region.

Responding to queries on the misuse of Virtual Private Networks (VPNs), the DIG said such platforms are increasingly being exploited to hide unlawful activities. He added that their misuse is under close watch as it also carries serious national security implications.

On the security situation along the border, Ul Zamaan said North Kashmir remains a sensitive zone due to its proximity to the Line of Control, but assured that robust security measures are in place. “The area is under constant surveillance and all forces are on high alert to thwart any infiltration attempts,” he said.

Reiterating the police’s resolve, the DIG said the campaign against drug trafficking will be intensified further, with equal emphasis on community participation to effectively tackle the threat. (JKNS)
