Budgam Police Crack Down on Illegal VPN Use, Register FIRs Against Violators

Budgam, Jan 3 (JKNS): In strict enforcement of the District Administration’s prohibitory orders, Budgam Police have launched a decisive action against the unauthorized use of Virtual Private Network (VPN) services, leading to the identification of multiple violators and registration of criminal cases to curb misuse of encrypted digital platforms.

In a statement issued here to news agency JKNS, In continuation of efforts to enforce lawful orders and prevent misuse of digital platforms, Budgam Police have acted against the use of unauthorized Virtual Private Network (VPN) services across the district.

Following prohibitory orders issued by the District Administration on 29 December 2025 banning unauthorized VPN usage, Budgam Police carried out systematic verification and monitoring. During the period from (29 December 2025 to 2 January 2026), 24 individuals were identified for violating these orders, it reads.

Based on investigation and technical analysis, two (02) FIRs were registered against individuals with adverse terror-related backgrounds, underscoring the security risks posed by misuse of encrypted platforms. Additionally, security proceedings were initiated against eleven (11) individuals, aged between 18 and 40 years, for non-compliance with the prohibitory orders, it reads.

They were bound down under Sections 126/170 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS) and later released after due warning, it reads.

Budgam Police reaffirm their commitment to maintaining public order, enforcing lawful directives, and preventing misuse of digital platforms. The public is advised to strictly comply with all orders issued by the District Administration and to use digital services responsibly, it reads. (JKNS)
