The situation worsened because of poor road connectivity, rugged terrain and delayed access for fire tenders, hampering timely firefighting efforts, they said.

Fire and emergency services, along with police and local residents, battled the flames for hours before bringing the situation under control. Despite collective efforts, the fire caused extensive damage to property.

Preliminary reports suggest that several livestock perished in the blaze, while at least four individuals suffered burn injuries and were rushed to a nearby medical facility, where their condition is stated to be stable.

The houses of several residents, were among those destroyed. A rented Anganwadi centre was also completely damaged in the incident.

Officials said a number of other structures sustained partial damage during firefighting and rescue operations. The exact cause of the fire is yet to be determined, while assessment of losses is underway.

No loss of life has been reported so far. The district administration has initiated measures to provide immediate relief and assistance to the affected families. (JKNS)
