Srinagar, Dec 29 (JKNS): A massive fire broke out in a three-storied residential house at Umar Colony, Lal Bazar in Srinagar on Monday morning, causing extensive damage to the structure, officials said.

An official from Fire and Emergency Services told news agency JKNS, the State Fire Control Room, Batamaloo, received an emergency call at around 08:42 am reporting that a three-storeyed residential house had been engulfed in flames. Soon after, fire tenders from Fire Station Hazratbal and Fire Station Nowshehra were rushed to the spot.

Given the congested locality and the absence of an immediate water source, additional firefighting units from the Fire and Emergency Services Headquarters were also pressed into service.

On reaching the scene, fire crews found the entire residential structure fully involved in fire. Firefighting operations were launched swiftly and continued for several hours, following which the blaze was successfully brought under control and prevented from spreading to nearby houses.

The operation was led by Divisional Fire Officer (DFO) Headquarters Muzaffar Ali Bhat under the direct supervision of Deputy Director Fire and Emergency Services Dr Mir Aqib Hussain, along with Mobilising Officer Aijaz Ahmad Shah.

Officials said the three-storied residential house was completely gutted in the incident. However, no loss of life or injuries were reported.

The cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained and is under investigation. Meanwhile, Fire and Emergency Services Srinagar has urged residents to strictly follow fire safety guidelines, particularly in densely populated residential areas, to avoid such incidents. (JKNS)
