Srinagar, Dec 26 (JKNS): Grand Mufti of Jammu and Kashmir, Mufti Nasir-ul-Islam, has strongly condemned the actions of a man seen in a viral video carrying a pigeon inside a mosque, saying the act amounted to disrespect of sacred religious spaces and sentiments, and urged authorities to intervene without delay.

Speaking to news agency JKNS, Grand Mufti termed the incident as “highly irresponsible and rooted in ignorance,” stressing that mosques are places of utmost sanctity and must be treated with reverence. He said such acts have the potential to disturb communal harmony if not addressed in time.

The remarks come amid widespread outrage across the Valley after a video circulated on social media platforms, including Facebook and Instagram, showing an individual with a pigeon inside a mosque or near the pulpit area, triggering sharp reactions from the public.

Mufti Nasir-ul-Islam further recalled that his father, late Mufti-e-Azam Mufti Muhammad Bashiruddin (RA), along with other eminent religious scholars, had earlier issued a fatwa of kufr against the same individual over similar actions, adding that the ruling remains valid.

“I appeal to the administration and the Director General of Police to take immediate cognizance of the matter to prevent any deterioration of law and order,” the Grand Mufti said, urging swift and decisive action to maintain peace and respect for religious institutions. (JKNS)
